Kobolds are cowardly and crafty. They live in mines that they excavate, looking for the perfect gem, so that they may appeal to the dragons they worship. They protect these mines with numerous traps and tricks. Kobolds are hard working, and they truly believe that once they find the perfect gem, their patron/matron dragon will reward them. Each Kobold will usually have their own personal shrine to the patron/matron dragon with a well protected gem, and the mine will have it’s much larger public shrine, as near to the top of the mountain as the Kobolds can get.
There are 3 clans, or Vraki, of Kobold that each worship a different dragon. These dragons have not actually been seen by Kobolds for generations. Each clan has a royal bloodline, which is believed to descend from the patron/matron dragon, meaning many of them have magic in their very blood. The Kobolds in each clan tend towards the colour of their dragon. The Charir Vraki are varying shades of red ranging from reddish brown to orange, deep maroon to bright red. The Aissir Vraki are pale shades of grey, green and brown, with some being bright white. The Achuak Vraki are brownish green, dark green and bright green. Kobolds status in society is decided almost entirely on how pure their colour is, with the purest being mostly from the royal bloodlines. This creates effectively a cast system, with colour variation within a family line being quite rare. A Kobold’s innate magical powers also elevate his status, and each Kobold with such powers is clearly marked by tattoos so it is clear to all just as much as his colour.
The Kobolds live in mines at the base of the mountain that corresponds to their patron dragon.
Because Kobolds are only interested in gems and similar shiny items (and even then only the best and biggest), a lot of what they consider to be rubbish is in fact useful for others. The Goblins quickly capitalised on this and in exchange for tools had a steady flow of raw materials with which they could craft many items useful for themselves and for trade.
